Author's Note: You're probably wondering why Serenity calls Throttle "dad". Truth be told is that she's his hybrid daughter from a drunken one night stand before he went back to Mars nine months later not knowing that Terry had given birth to his daughter. He came across this info when he bumped into Terry Baitmore a few months later and she introduced him to his new daughter Serenity who lives six months out of the year with her mother and step father and the other six months with her father on Mars. For all you who wonder about how Throttle raises his daughter: Yes he is harsh on the Homework rule, if she doesn't get her homework done before he gets home then she doesn't get to watch TV until it's completed and he's satisfied with the end results. Fortunately for Throttle, he's never had to come down hard on his daughter 'cause her homeworks always done by the time he gets back and is always left on the kitchen table open and waiting for him to check over and mark off in her homework assignment book.

It was a dark and stormy early summer afternoon in Chicago, this was the type of afternoon when everyone was thankful for being in doors where they were warm, dry, cold free and possibly reading a book to pass the rainy afternoon away. Unfortunately for one eight year old girl who lay fevered in her bed, this had to be the worst week of her entire life. The girl was so badly weakened by the fever that she no longer had the strength to sit up in bed and read the way she used to before the strange fever took her by surprise. The girl was an athlete who loved every sport she played and all her friends ..... especially her uncle who you will meet later in the story. As she lay against her soft pillows sleeping off the fever with a cool cloth over her fevered forehead, you could tell that the cool air that was blowing in through her open bedroom window along with the cool cloth on her forehead helped to cool her off. As you move closer to her bed, you can see that the girl's face is a pale shade of red and that her breathing was punctuated every so often with sounds of her swallowing the cool air that came in through her open bedroom window. Suddenly a loud crash sounded from the next room that was followed by a voice that said "Knock it off Vincent! Serenity is in the next room trying to sleep so that she can get over being sick! Please don't make me have to get Stoker on the radio and ask him to come and take Serenity to his place where she can rest in peace and quietness for once!" Shortly after the voice rang out in warning, the door to the girl' s bedroom quietly opened and a grey coloured Martian male mouse stuck his head in to check on the girl to see if the noise the other mouse had made in the next room had awakened her at all. In a low soft voice, the mouse quietly called "Serenity? Serenity are you all right sweetheart? We didn't wake you did we?" Opening the bedroom door wider, the grey mouse slipped in quietly shut the door behind him, then he walked over to the girls bedside and sat on her right side. The 6 foot 9 inch grey male mouse was the girl's closest and her sweet, gentle and kind uncle..... Modo Maverick. Her other uncle Vincent (Vinnie) Van Wham and her biological father Throttle Mouse were trying their hardest to keep the noise level down so that she could continue to recover. The girl's name was Serenity Baitmore or as her uncle Modo called her Pikachu and she had been sick since the last day after her school term had ended and her father's custody time began and went up until January when she lived with her mother, step father and step siblings. Carefully picking up her tiny well manicured left hand that was laying on the quilt, Modo held it tight with his left hand. After picking up the thermometer that was laying on the night stand by the side of the bed, Modo turned it on and gently slipped it into Serenity's ear to check her temperature, the girl stirred in her sleep and quietly but faintly whispered with out opening her eyes "D-dad that you? Is it lunch time all ready? I wish you'd come in more often and talk to me, it gets so lonely in here that I need someone to talk to me. Just don't bring me anymore broth, I'm getting sick of it." Which caused him to say after he removed the thermometer
"No now hush and rest. Save your strength and rest, its only me, I came back to check your temperature. Hmm still at 145 degrees, oh when will your temperature come down enough for you to wake up longer than the five minutes that you can stay awake for? I haven't seen those midnight blue eyes in three weeks. I guess I should come in when your up and eating. (Sighs) As for now I'll just let you continue resting. Your dad will be back later with some hot soup, a couple of sandwiches to eat and a nice tall glass of cool smooth Ginger ale for you to drink just like you asked for. I'll make sure not to make any more broth from now on. Sleep tight sweetie." Standing up, Modo brushed her bangs away from the cool cloth on her fevered forehead, removed the cloth, dunked it into the bucket of cool water on the bedside crate, squeezed the water from it, gently pressed the cool cloth against Serenity's flushed cheeks, cooled off her hot chest, then re-emersed the cloth into the cool water and squeezed the water from it and laid it back across her fevered forehead. Modo gently kissed her cheek, let go of her hand, tucked it back under the quilt and quietly left Serenity's bedside, walked to the bedroom door and told the white mouse with a metal mask covering the left side of his face who had appeared in the door way to keep the noise down or he'd wake Serenity up and that she needed all the rest and quietness that they could give her until she had fully recovered from the fever. Glancing over at the sleeping Serenity, Vinnie quietly said "So how's she doing? Has the fever broke yet? I know its only been three weeks, but when things are this quiet it seems like a life time since Serenity became sick. It's just too quiet for my liking. I'm just so used to clowning around and making so much noise with Serenity, that the silence has gotten to me." Modo quietly ushered his biker brother into the next room, closed the door then spoke in a low soft voice "I know how you feel, I miss her too. Stoker, Rimfire and Four-By all miss her even more bro. But remember who it was that got Pikachu this sick. If it wasn't for that stupid summer flu bug going around, Serenity would be in California with her siblings and friends right now, not flat on her back with a temperature that had been at 345 that is now sitting at 145 that has made her way too weak to get out of bed. She's a tough girl for her age, she'll fight her way back Vincent, just wait and see bro. But for now the only thing she needs right this minute is our support and some peace and quiet so she can start to really fight this fever. Her mother and step father are at a Military Conference over in Atlanta. Stacey and the others are at the gymnastics tournament in California, so that's why we're here, Terry and Jearold are counting on us to keep an eye on Serenity while she's sick. As for now Vinnie, I've got to go and get Serenity's lunch tray ready for her. Do me a favour and go and tell Throttle that his kid asked for him to take her lunch into her." Going into the den and going over to the couch, Vinnie leaned over and said to Throttle "Serenity wants to know if you'll take her lunch into her, will you do it for her?" Looking up from the TV, Throttle said
"Sure I'll do it. I haven't seen her in a while and it'll give me a chance to see how she's feeling. Is her tray ready to take in? It'll give me a chance to talk to her about the living arrangements."
From the kitchen, Modo called "Who ever is taking Serenity's lunch tray into her, you can come and get it, it's ready to be taken in to her." Getting up from the couch, Throttle turned the TV off and went into the kitchen where Modo greeted him by saying " Serenity asked for you to take her lunch into her, so go in and see her." While Modo cleaned up in the kitchen, Throttle took the tray off the counter, left the kitchen with Vinnie, carefully walked down the hall to Serenity's make shift bedroom, where he opened the door for Throttle who slipped in and waited for Vinnie to remove the bucket of water from the chair beside Serenity's bedside so that he could sit down on the chair and set the tray over Serenity's lap. After he removed the bucket and sat it down beside the night table, Vinnie quietly slid out the door to allow Throttle his privacy with Serenity. Knowing that the soup was going to be cold soon, Throttle gently awakened Serenity by laying his hand across her warm cheeks and saying "Hey, time to wake up and eat so you can regain your strength and get better." Slowly awakening, Serenity's midnight blue eyes slowly opened as she said "Hmm? Lunch time already? Did I get ginger ale this time? The last time I got Rootbeer until we got more ginger ale." Knowing how Serenity felt with obnoxious gas rolling around in her system, Throttle checked her glass and said "He did it again honey. Uncle Modo gave you another glass of Rootbeer when you asked for Ginger ale, I'll be right back with a new glass full of Ginger ale, in the mean time, you eat your soup so that you'll start regaining your strength."
Standing up with the glass of Rootbeer in his hand, Throttle walked over to the bedroom door, opened it and went to the kitchen where he informed Modo that he had given Serenity Rootbeer again instead of Ginger ale. Modo informed him that there was no more ginger ale in the fridge and that he had no idea where Serenity's parents kept the stash of pop for back up. Throttle knew where to go for the extra cases of chilled pop and opened the door to the cellar, turned the light on and descended to the second landing where a deep freeze was sitting, removed the key from the peg, stuck it in the lock and opened the lid, reached in and removed eight cases of rootbeer and ginger ale then shut the lid, relocked it and replaced the key on it's rightful peg on the wall, took three pile of pop while Vinnie and Modo took the other two cases, headed back up stairs and shut off the light then proceeded to restock the fridge with the new cases of pop and Throttle set aside four cans of ginger ale that he opened and poured into Serenity's favourite glass and left the kitchen to go back to Serenity's room where he closed the door and walked back over to her bed saying
"Here you go sweetie! A nice tall glass of gas remover aka ginger ale. How've you been feeling since you first became sick?" Testing her strength, Serenity managed to get herself partially propped up but felt too tired to go the rest of the way and allowed her father to fix her pillows and sit her up against them saying " Not quite the way I'd like to be feeling right now. I'm tired of constantly being hot, weak and constantly having to force soup down my throat when I feel like I'm going to throw it back up. Two meals of soup is my limit, not three weeks later and still eating chicken soup. I can handle hard foods like lasagne, pizza, hamburgers and the likes. So what's with the three month supply of chicken soup?" Shaking his head, Throttle replied "Hey that's what I've been wondering too! I know that when you're sick you eat chicken soup for a few meals but not every day for lunch supper and snack! You must be really sick and tired of chicken soup by now, and your mother left an already made lasagne in the fridge to have for supper, all he has to do is stick it in the oven at 350 degrees for the set length of time and voila, we have a nice big supper rare and ready to eat but he insists that you're stomach will reject solid foods and keeps opening up cans of chicken soup and emptying them into the huge soup pot that your mother uses for making stews in." Serenity shoves the bowl of Chunky Chicken Stew away from her and says "Just the smell of it makes me want to throw up. My stomach's already rejecting the soup so I can't eat it anymore, if I do then I'll be sick to my stomach. That's not what I want happening. Take the soup and do what you like with it, Ill try myself on these sandwiches he's made." Picks up a sandwich and takes a bite out of it then chews and swallows realizing that the sandwich was staying in her stomach and continues eating her sandwiches until she'd eaten them all and drank all the ginger ale in her cup, then Throttle looked at the time and said "It's medicine time for you Serenity, this stuff will knock you out for the time being up until supper time then you'll get more, I just hope your fever doesn't take a turn for the worst and go higher instead of lower." Picks up the specially marked spoon and the medication from the night stand, removes the cap from the bottle and pours some of the foul tasting liquid onto the spoon and says "Here sweetie, take this then I'll lay you back down and you can get some more sleep." Serenity, not too thrilled with the taste of her mandatory medication, reluctantly takes the tablespoon of symptom specific syrup then takes it three more times until her four table spoons were taken then allows her dad to lay her back down and re-tucks her covers around her waist and gets one last hug from her dad before he left her so she could get some sleep then says "By the way, your mother's wanting to know how you'd feel about living with me full time instead of six months out of the year. The papers are waiting to be signed sealed and delivered, we're just waiting for your input. It's your choice honey, not mine. I can't make you say what you don't want to." Trying not to fall asleep Serenity said "I'd rather live with you full time than live here for six months." Nodding his head, Throttle replied "Alright then, as soon as things are settled back on Mars, you'll come live with me full time instead of six months of the year. As for now sweet dreams and I'll see you when you wake up again." Almost half asleep Serenity muttered "Stay with me awhile dad?"
Nodding his head, Throttle replied "Sure sweetheart, I'll stay with you for the afternoon." Sitting back down on the bed, Throttle stretched out beside his now soundly sleeping daughter and laid her head against his side gently stroking her hair while she slept with one arm draped across his waist he muttered a long forgotten lullaby that his mother sang to him when he was sick to ease his aching mind substituting daughter for son "Sweet darling daughter of mine, angel of the heavens, drifting around in slumber land, let not the aching of your body weight you down, let the sweet sound of my voice lull you into deep sleep. Oh sweet daughter of mine, you have your future ahead of you, lots of things to do when you awaken. For now sleep my dear sleep peacefully, dream childish dreams while you're still young. You will forever be my angel fallen from the heavens into my life, let not the arch angels worry for I will take great care of you my fallen heavenly treasure." Looking down at his peacefully sleeping daughter, Throttle knew the lullaby was right, that Serenity was heaven sent to straighten out and fill a void in his life. Feeling exhausted from being up all night coaxing his daughter's fever down, Throttle removed his weapons belt, stashing it inside Serenity's nightstand table drawer then shut it,removed his nuke knocks and laid his shades on the table then laid down, reached over and turned off her lamp and fell into a peaceful sleep that lasted until the alarm for supper went off waking him out of a peaceful dream. Awakening in time to swiftly shut the loud alarm off before it awakened Serenity, Throttle untangled himself from her arms, got up off Serenity's bed and left her bedroom to go get her supper of four hot dogs and a glass of diet Pepsi and a big bowl of Chocolate fudge pudding that had been mixed with chocolate pudding and put back into the freezer to refreeze on to a tray with a spoon and napkins then carried it into Serenity's bedroom where he kicked her door shut and headed back over to her bed sitting the tray down on the legs he gently shook Serenity awake saying "Supper time hon,c'mon up and at 'em."
